Welcome back! As the summer heats up, it can be difficult to find ways to switch up your outfits. This week we are continuing our series on upcycling and elevating the classics. Below are six different ways that you can style your traditional tank top without cutting, sewing, or spending any money.
1. No-cut Cropping
I’m sure we have all been there — we get bored with our full length tank and end up taking the scissors to it. But what happens when you need your full-length tank back? Or you tuck it and it just isn’t laying right. A better way is to flip the tank top inside out and upside down, with the bottom of the tank like a bandeau around your chest and the straps by your hips. Once you have it on, put on a bra overtop to keep it in place. Lastly, just fold the tank top up and loop your arms through the holes, adjust as needed!
2. Twisted
This one is perfect for a night out or just to try something different. It works best for a smaller tank top with thicker straps but it can work with anything. Simply put on the top as usual then slide off one strap. Pull that strap through the bottom of that same side, and slide it back on. You might need to fuss with this one a little but it's worth it!
3. One shoulder
Wearing the tank top as normal all you need to do is take one of your straps and pull it over your head to the other shoulder. Again, this might take a little bit of adjusting in order to get the fit you want. If you want to add a little extra pizzazz to the fit, grab a pair of thick hoop earrings and place them, stacked, around the two straps connecting them.
4. Crisscross
Using the same technique as the one-shoulder style that we just went over, take the other strap and put that over your head to the other side. You’ll have to play around with it to get the correct shape and make sure if the straps are adjustable they are to the longest setting!
5. Square neck
Many traditional tank tops have a heavy scoop neck that is not as trendy as it used to be. In order to revamp your top just take one strap off at a time and twist to create a loop (again it is helpful to loosen the strap all the way for this style). Then just pull that loop back up your arm. This creates the perfect 90° top that is a little bit more trend-forward without having to spend money.
6. Bandeau/ Tube top
We recommend using a thin strapped tank top so the fabric doesn’t bunch. This one is semi self-explanatory, all you are going to do is tuck each strap into the tank top and adjust as necessary. It is easier if you adjust the straps to be shorter to lessen fabric.
Our goal at RYN is to help you get creative with your clothes and give you different styling options so you can look and feel your best without having to spend any money.
