Clothing is a part of our everyday lives, we actively make the decision multiple times a day to put certain clothing on whether we like our outfit or not. We use it as a way to express ourselves and our personalities and put it into a physical outward representation. However, clothing is not just a rational or aesthetic choice it has a huge impact on our behavior, mood, and overall prosperity.
Our clothing and style choices can make or break our confidence. The term “dress for success” has actually meaning behind it. When we dress in clothing that fits well and is comfortable our confidence and mood are significantly boosted. Conversely, we begin to feel insecure and self-conscious when wearing something uncomfortable or unflattering. Clothing has a lot of psychology behind it!
Even the color of your clothing can determine your energy levels and mood for that day. Wearing bright and bold colors allows us to feel more energetic while muted tones can have a calming and relaxing effect on us. The same goes for the style of clothing you are putting on. When you are wearing a certain style that is typically associated with a certain group, wearing those clothes can make you feel more connected in that community and can change how you behave in it as well. A study published in DW shows that when we wear an article of clothing with a specific meaning, these clothes can influence our psychological state. It’s called “enclothed cognition.” For example, a lab coat is associated with intelligence and scientific thinking.
The whole point is that clothing matters. How we dress can have an effect on how other people view us, how we view ourselves, and how we subconsciously decide we are going to behave that day. This is why RYN was created. Our mission is to reduce the stress of getting dressed without compromising self-expression to ultimately help you show up better for yourself and those around you.
